THE GRAND CHALLENGE

  • When is the challenge?
    The Grand Challenge takes place from
    22-24 June 2021 at the trade fair automatica sprint in Munich, Germany.

  • Where is the challenge?
    The Robothon® takes place in hall A1 (subject to change) as a part of munich_i on the automatica sprint exhibition ground of Messe München.

  • What is the Grand Challenge 2021?
    This year's Robothon® Grand Challenge examines how single arm manipulators can accelerate the implementation of a circular economy. This event specifically looks at how robots can be used in the disassembly and sorting of electronic waste.

  • How and when will the winning teams be selected?
    Teams will present their results in the morning of the last day of the competition, 24 June, to The Grand Challenge Jury. Winners will be announced during the Award Ceremony scheduled the same day around noon.

  • We've been selected! What do we need to do?
    A detailed event schedule will follow once your participation has been confirmed. We kindly ask selected teams to send their arrival details to us via info@robothon-grand-challenge.com.

  • What do Teams need to bring to the event?
    All teams are kindly asked to bring their own development computer to the event. Each team will receive a designated table in the event area with power, internet, and a competition board at the beginning of the event.

  • We got partnered with a platform provider, what do we need to do before the competition?
    Teams will meet with their designated platform provider representation on Monday afternoon. Details of what to bring will vary depending on the platform. For specific questions please send an email to info@robothon-grand-challenge.com.

  • We are planning to bring our own robot, what do we need to do before the competition?
    Teams bringing their own platform will need to organize transportation of their equipment on their own. Delivery address will be provided upon approval of the robot by the event organizers. APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Who can apply?
    All interested roboticists are encouraged to apply. Each team application is reviewed by our Grand Challenge Jury.

  • Can one apply alone?
    No, we only accept applications from
    teams of three to five people.

  • Is there an age limit?
    Yes. All participants have to be at least
    18 years old.

  • What is the application deadline?
    Applications will be accepted until 30 March 2021 23:59 CEST. Selected teams will be notified by end of April 2021.

  • How to apply?
    Interested teams can apply using the form. Quality applications will include details about the teams collective experience programming robots, information about how they would solve the NIST manipulation task board and team captain contact details.

  • Is there a registration fee?
    No,
    there is no application fee for the Robothon® Grand Challenge. Selected teams will receive admission to the automatica sprint fair, accommodation during the event and food and beverages in the competition area.


TRAVEL & COSTS

  • What costs are covered?
    We cover
    accommodation from 21-24 June 2021 at Jaeger’s Hotel-Hostel. We cover the catering costs including breakfast at the accommodation as well as catering during the Robothon®. The entrance fee to the automatica sprint fair is waived for selected teams. Selected teams will receive entrance tickets prior to the Grand Challenge.

  • What costs are NOT covered?
    Travel to Munich is not covered by the competition. Please plan your arrival in Munich on Monday, 21 June. Transportation to and from the hotel to the trade fair is also the responsibility of participating teams.

  • How to get to the automatica sprint fair after arriving in Munich?
    Munich has several great transportation options. See Google Maps.


THE EVENT & ITS INITIATORS

  • What is munich_i?
    A joint project
    of automatica and the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) to bring together science, business, politics and start-ups to shape the future progress in AI and robotics. The four pilliars of the project are: the Hightech Summit, the AI.Society, the Robot driver's license and the Robothon® .

  • What is automatica and automatica sprint?
    Automatica is the leading exhibition for smart automation and robotics run by Messe München. While the regular automatica will only take place again in 2022, automatica sprint will celebrate its premiere at the Munich exhibition center from 22-24 June 2021 and it´s a flexible trade fair concept with digital offers. It is one of the initiators of munich_i next to the MSRM.

  • What is MSRM?
    The Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence. Founded by The Technical University of Munich (TUM) as an integrative research center in the field of robotics and machine intelligence to develop innovative and sustainable technologies and solutions for central challenges of our time.


COVID-19

The safety of all participants is our top most priority. The event organizers will follow the recommended guidelines from the state officials for conduct the event. Inform you about the automatica hygiene concept.

  • What are the safety measures at The Robothon® Grand Challenge area?
    All participants will be required to wear sufficient protective equipment, i.e. face masks. The area layout will be designed to maintain sufficient distance between teams.

  • What are the safety measures at the accommodation?
    In order to enable the safety distance, booking of hotel rooms will be reduced to 50% occupancy.
